Home Remedies for Arthritis

Arthritis is a kind of physical disorder in which patients feel inflammation of joints. There are more than 100 types of arthritis. Arthritis attacks the cartilage and reduce the sunovial fluid. It also attacks body cells. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. Women are at higher risk of developing arthritis. There are primarily two types of arthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis arthritis. Symptoms of arthritis are joint pain, stiffness, swelling and inflammation. We have a list of home remedies that can help you get rid of Arthritis related pain.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is rich in magnesium, calcium, potassium which are very helpful in keeping your bones healthy. You have to make a solution with Apple Cider Vinegar that is add apple cider vinegar and honey to warm water.  Take it in morning daily, and it will relieve your joint pain and remove toxic in the joints and connective tissues.

  1. Ginger

Ginger can reduce inflammation because it contains anti-inflammatory properties. Mix ginger with black pepper and add the mixture to a glass of water. Take it thrice daily, and you can also apply ginger oil on the affected area. You can manage arthritis by eating raw ginger as it helps in circulating the blood and alleviating pain.

  1. Turmeric

Turmeric helps to reduce inflammation, as it contains curcumin. It is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. You should take a glass of milk with turmeric powder. You can also take turmeric capsules before going to bed.

  1. Cinnamon with honey

You have to take Cinnamon with honey and water in the morning as it contains anti-inflammatory properties. You can also massage your affected area with the paste of cinnamon and honey.

  1. Garlic

Mix garlic with mustard seed oil on your affected area gently as garlic helps to reduce inflammation.

  1. Epsom Salt

Epsom salt regulates the levels of alkalinity and acidity in your body because it contains magnesium. You have to add two cups of Epsom salt to warm water and soak for about 14 minutes. Your Ph levels must be balanced as diseases like arthritis are caused due to high level of Ph.

  1. Alfalfa

You can get Alfalfa in your local market in the form of capsules and it is a really good home remedy. Alfalfa seeds contain minerals helping in balancing the acidity and alkalinity in your body. You can also prepare tea with Alfalfa seeds as it will help you reducing inflammation.

  1. Fenugreek seeds

You can chew it in the morning after soaking its seeds in water overnight. It reduces pain in your joints, and is a great home remedy.

  1. Cherries

Cherries are very useful in arthritis as they contain Magnesium and Potassium which are known to reduce pain and inflammation. Consume at least 10 cherries daily.

  1. Castor oil

You can cook your food with Castor oil as Castor oil is very good for managing arthritis. It can also be an alternative to other oils.

  1. Fish oil

Take at least 2 spoonful of fish oil every day as it has been proved that fish oil contains omega fatty acids which is anti-inflammatory and can reduce your joint pain very effectively. You should take it in the morning on an empty stomach.

  1. Olive oil

Olive oil can be a good substitute because it has oleo central which contains inflammatory enzymes called cox-1 and cox-2.

  1. Exercise

Excess body weight can put pressure on your joints resulting in more pain so you should reduce your weight. Exercises can easily reduce your excess weight and stiffness.

  1. Medication

To alleviate pain you can use medication (chondroitin and glucosamine). It will definitely help you manage pain in an effective way.

  1. Massage

To manage pain you can massage as it helps in relieving swelling and inflammation. Massage helps to circulate blood in your body and is very relaxing physically and mentally.

  1. Vitamin E

There was a study in Germany that suggests that taking 1,500 IU of vitamin E daily can reduce pain and morning stiffness. So, you can eat foods which are rich in vitamin E.

  1. Calcium

Calcium intake is vital for everyone as it helps your bones and joints to stay healthy. If you have too little calcium in your body then the risk of osteoporosis increases. Women usually suffer from arthritis because of lack of calcium in their body. You can get calcium from dairy products and vegetables like cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale, broccoli etc.

  1. Spicy food

Spices like ginger, cayenne pepper and turmeric contain compounds that help to reduce swelling. Spicy foods also block brain chemical that transmits pain signals.

  1. Sniff fragrant spices

Studies show that pleasant aromas like Lavender can alter the perception of pain. Researchers from Japan have proved that Lavender reduces stress hormone called cortisol ultimately making you feel relaxed.

  1. Move your fingers

As arthritis affects your fingers and make them stiff, you should exercise your fingers and keep them busy. You can wash your own dishes as you will dip your fingers in hot water will make your hands relaxed.

  1. Heat pad

You can make your own heat pad, just take a sock and fill it with uncooked rice and fill it. Microwave it for about 2 to 3 minutes. Take it out and cool it until it becomes bearable to touch then place it on your affected joints.

  1. Cold and Hot treatment

It is a really good home remedy to reduce pain. You have to take two containers one is filled with cold and another is hot and put them on your affected joints. Start with cold, immerse the hurting joint for a minute, then switch to the hot water and immerse for 30 seconds. Continue the process for 15 minutes and finish it with cold.

  1. Swimming

A Taiwanese study showed that swimming improves knee and hip flexibility, strength and make you fit. It is so becomes important for you if you are suffering from arthritis. There are classes especially designed for people suffering from arthritis.

  1. Green tea

We all know how good green tea is for our health. Yes, it is true that green tea can manage your arthritis effectively because research study found that tea’s polyphenol antioxidants are anti-inflammatory and it can reduce cartilage damage.

  1. Vitamin C

It has been proved that vitamin C helps in producing collagen, a main component of joints. Vitamin C also helps to reduce destructive free radicals in your body.  As vitamin C is not stored in your body so you have to take it daily. Citrus fruits contain a good amount of vitamin C, so try to take them daily.

  1. Cloves

Cloves are rich in anti-inflammatory chemical called eugenol that helps to manage arthritis. Cloves contain antioxidants that slow down cartilage and bone damage. Take at least a teaspoon daily.

  1. Songs

Studies show that listening to your favorite songs can lesson your pain and relax you a lot. So, it can be a good pain management. However, this is not a permanent cure but you can manage your depression, and pain with your favorite tune.

  1. Sun bath

It is often seen that people who are deficient in vitamin D tend to suffer more because this vitamin plays a role in producing collagen in joints. So, as we know the best source of getting vitamin D is Sun so expose yourself for at least thrice a week.

  1. Chondroitin/Glucosamine

This combination is very effective and it can provide a long-term pain relief. It has already been proved that glucosamine and chondroitin can repair your damaged cartilage.

You can take a little cayenne, rosemary, or thyme and add them to a cup of olive oil and massage on your affected area. It will help you by reducing pain in your joints as these have pain soothing properties.
