Home remedies for Dermatitis

Dermatitis can be really painful if it is not treated well. It is also called eczema. Skin starts itching and turns red and swollen. This condition worsens when you scratch it constantly. There can be different causes for this condition; it can be soap, some chemicals or anything. But you can easily treat it if you follow our steps on how to cure Dermatitis.

  1. Honey

Eczema is cured with the help of honey and water. Honey contains anti-bacterial, anti-fungal properties which help to kill microbes. Take a few teaspoons of honey and add to a glass of boiled water. Then apply the solution on your affected part of the body. Let it sit there for at least 3 hours and finally wash it off.

  1. Acacia Arabica

Acacia Arabica an Indian traditional Ayurveda is a great home remedy for treating dermatitis. It is a tree and often called Indian Arabic tree. To use it you have to take plain boiled water and add some Acacia Arabica to it. Then allow the vapors to come in contact with the affected area to cure.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has many medicinal properties. It has a long history of treating seborrheic dermatitis and other skin diseases .Apple cider vinegar contains malic acid which helps restore acidic environment of the skin. Take equal amount of water and apple cider vinegar and add the vinegar to the water. Apply it to your affected area and let it sit there for around 20 minutes. Then wash it off.

  1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has fatty acid which helps to fight fungus. Coconut oil can also fight dermatitis symptoms. It is a very common treatment for many skin diseases. To treat dermatitis you need to take half a teaspoon of coconut oil and apply it over your affected area and message gently for 10 minutes. When the message is done you have to bandage the affected area and after half an hour rinse it off.

  1. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has a long history of treating many kind of diseases. Aloe Vera contains medicinal properties and is a very good home remedy for eczema. It is also used to heal wounds, cuts etc. Aloe Vera contains anti-inflammatory properties helping us by stopping secondary infections. To use it for treating dermatitis you have to apply aloe Vera directly on your affected area. You can also consume aloe vera juice to make your skin glow naturally.

  1. Horse Chestnut

It is a very good home remedy to treat eczema. It is also used to treat varicose veins, venous insufficiency and leg ulcers. It is a very natural treatment and as it tightens veins and tone blood vessels. The ingredients of horse chestnut are saponins, tannins and proanthocyanidines. But remember that you must not consume it raw as it can possibly contain toxic so use herbal preparation of it.

  1. Baking Soda

Baking soda is highly alkaline and it helps us by making the affected area unbearable for bacteria and eventually bacteria dies. It has been used for a very long time to fight fungus.  To use it mix half a teaspoon of luring baking soda with half a cup of water. Apply it over your affected area and after 10 minutes wash it off.  But it is often seen that the skin gets dry and dermatitis comes back after Baking soda treatment.

  1. Tea tree oil

When it comes to treating dermatitis we cannot forget tea tree oil as it is one of the best home remedies. It contains a list of very powerful healing components like antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory which can ease symptoms. It is also used to treat dandruff, kills bacteria in the skin, mouth and treating acne, curing wounds etc. To use it for treating eczema, add a few drops of tree oil to a good moisturizer and apply it on the affected area. You can also drop some tea oil in half a cup of coconut oil and apply the solution to the affected area.

  1. Garlic

Garlic can be really effective home remedy to treat dermatitis because garlic has an active chemical compound called allicin and allicin is known for its antifungal nature. You have to consume garlic raw rather than cooking it for best result because cooking might destroy its active ingredient.

  1. Cold Compress

It is also in our list of home remedies to treat dermatitis. It is highly effective in treating this condition. It is used to reduce inflammation accompanied by dermatitis. Apply cold compress four times daily for best result.

  1. Turmeric

We cannot forget Turmeric when it comes to treating dermatitis. It is a very effective home remedy and is a spice used by Chinese and Indians for its flavor. It has many health benefits. Turmeric contains an ingredient called curcumin which is anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antibacterial. For treating dermatitis start consuming turmeric 4 grams daily but not more than this.

  1. Chamomile

To use Chamomile for treating dermatitis you have to take a tablespoon of the dried form and add to a cup of boiling water. Strain it and let it cool down. Then with a cotton ball apply it over the affected area. Repeat this for three times daily.

  1. Marigold

Marigold has anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties used to treat skin irritation and other skin ailments. Marigold is very common and can be easily found in stores mostly in cream forms and ointment. To use it you have to dip a cotton ball into cooled marigold tea and apply it over the affected area. Apply it 3 times daily for best result.

  1. Chickweed

Chickweed plant s has been used especially by Chinese for hundreds of years. It is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and is very much prescribed by herbalists so it is in our list of home remedies for treating dermatitis. It is consumed in the form of capsules and creams containing Chickweed to reduce inflammation and itching. Pregnant women should not use it.

  1. Witch Hazel

It is used to relieve itching associated with dermatitis. It contains tannins which is good for treating dermatitis. It can be used in the form of both liquid and cream. You can also make a herbal extract and the process is boil a cup of water and add a teaspoon of powdered leaves to it. Wait for at least 10 minutes, strain and allow it to cool down. And finally apply the solution directly on the affected area.

  1. Oats

You can use Oatmeal for soothing irritation as it has a compounds known as avenanthramides which have anti-inflammatory agents and also anti-oxidant. It is also used to treat skin redness, dryness and erythema. To use it you have to take powdered oatmeal and add it to your bath water. Bath in this water and repeat this step for at least month.

  1. Marshmallow

It is a good home remedy to treat dermatitis. It is also a very traditional and reliable treatment. Marshmallow gel extracted from the plant is mixed with water and applied it over the affected area to soothe and protect skin naturally.

  1. Licorice

Licorice is home remedy for treating this condition. Licorice is a herb in traditional Chinese medicine to treat skin related problems including dermatitis. It has anti-inflammatory properties which help to reduce skin redness, swelling and itching effectively. Consult to your doctor before using licorice.

  1. Neem

Neem or Indian Lilac is very useful when it comes to treating dermatitis effectively. It helps you by protecting your skin from different infections and nourishing it. To use it take one tablespoon of turmeric powder, one tablespoon of sesame oil and a few neem leaves .Make a paste of it and apply it over the affected area. Leave it for a few hours and then rinse it off. Continue this treatment for a several months.

  1. Slippery Elm

Slippery Elm is high in mucilage and it is used to treat dermatitis by moisturizing your skin and helping the healing process. To use it effectively you have to take and grind some slipper elm leaves and make a paste and apply it on the affected area. After if becomes dry you have to rinse it off.

  1. Diet

To fight infections make sure you take a good balanced diet. If you are healthy then there is a little possibility that you will dermatitis. A Good balanced diet should contain vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, zinc and B-complex vitamins.

  1. Fish oil

Although fish oil is not used directly to treat dermatitis but it is seen that fish oil helps reduce itching. Make sure you take a daily dose of fish oil to get rid of dermatitis symptoms.

  1. Light therapy

Light therapy or Phototherapy is a very effective treatment to cure eczema and as we all know it costs nothing. It calms inflammation and reduces itching. Expose yourself in the Sun for 15 minutes daily. Doing this will increase your vitamin D in your body which will fight bacteria.

  1. Dead Sea salt bath

It is true that Dead Sea has healing powers. Have a bath with the salt from Dead Sea water. It will surely improve your condition, reduce inflammation, and relieve redness. Don’t rub the affected part just use a soft towel.

  1. Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is in our list because it can be used to reduce anxiety, depression and itching.  It heals dry skin. You have to add take a tablespoon of coconut oil to 10 drops of Lavender oil and gently apply it over the affected area.

  1. Vitamin E

To reduce inflammation take a daily dose of 400IU of vitamin E and it will definitely be helpful. Topical vitamin E is very helpful to relieve the itching and preventing against scarring.

  1. Pumpkin

Pumpkin is a very good home remedy to treat this condition. Pumpkin or Chia seeds contain zinc which helps to heal wound and it also metabolizes fatty acids.

  1. Fiber rich foods

There are toxins in our body which must be expelled from our body. So, if you are suffering from constipation then chances are there that the toxins will be expelled through your skin. To get rid of constipation you need to take a minimum of 30 grams of fiber daily through your foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes etc.

  1. Vitamin A

For a healthy skin it is important to take vitamin A as it is necessary for your skin. So, take vitamin A rich food stuffs like orange, yellow vegetables. It will definitely prevent any kind of skin problem.

  1. Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds contain omega-3 fatty acids and it helps to block a chemical called arachidonic acid which is one of the causes of inflammation. You can grind a few tablespoons of Flaxseed oil and add to Oatmeal and consume it.

  1. Olive Oil

Mother Nature has made Olive oil packed with omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 actually helps reduce inflammation. Take some warm olive oil and rub it on your affected area. You can also add Olive oil in your diet for a faster healing.

  1. Vegetable treatment

It is a very good home remedy to treat the condition. When you suffer from Eczema your skin tends to become dry, so in this condition you can make a coat of kitchen staple and wrap it on the affected area with plastic and leave it for 3 hours to let the moisture sink in.

  1. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a traditional technique of China to cure many diseases. Thin needles are inserted through the skin at specific points on the patient’s body. Chinese believe that Eczema is a condition when body gets heat excessively. Acupuncture is used to treat this condition and it is proved that it reduces itching.

  1. Wet wraps

Wet wraps is an effective technique to reduce itchiness. It also repairs the epidermal barrier and very relieving even in severe eczema. But remember that over use of wet wrap can break down your skin and even cause infections. So, it is advised to consult your doctor before using wet wraps.

  1. Probiotics

Probiotics are very good for your skin but there is no solid proof that if can actually help treating Eczema in adults but if taken by pregnant women can prevent Eczema in infants. Probiotics help restore the bacterial balance in your body.

  1. Shea butter

Shea butter is used to moisturize your dry skin. Apply it directly on the affected area. When purchasing Shea butter, make sure it is has no cosmetic, scents and is pure.

  1. Jojoba oil

Jojoba oil is used to treat this skin disease as it penetrates your skin and is a good moisturizer. It can also be used to treat acne. You can use it directly on the affected skin.

  1. Epsom salt bath

Epsom salts or magnesium slakes can be used to treat the condition effectively. You can add 1-2 cups of Epsom salts in your bath water and bath with this water .The salt is easily available in your locality.
