As we all know immune system acts as a bodyguard in fighting off diseases and protects us but if the same becomes our enemy and attacks our cells then we have to face different problems. In Autoimmune disease, our immune system attacks our healthy cells, it is because it cannot differentiate harmful bacteria and healthy cells. There is no solid, proved reason for this but it is believed that this change of behavior is due to micro-organism or may be alteration of drug.

In this disease, our immune system sometimes attacks a particular organ like thyroid (diagnosed as Grave’s disease), gastrointestinal tract (diagnosed as ulcerative colitis). Rheumatoid arthritis is also a cause of this disease. In autoimmune disease, inflammation is an uncomfortable side effect. You can follow our home remedies which are very effective in treating Autoimmune diseases.

  1. Turmeric

As we all know how effective Turmeric to treat many health issues. Yes, Turmeric can be used to suppress inflammation-boosting enzymes in autoimmune diseases like arthritis because Turmeric contains a substance called curcumin. There was a study published in the year 2005 by Digestive Diseases and Science, in which it was proved that taking pure curcumin doses can reduce dependence on medication of those with Colitis.First you have to boil a cup of milk and add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder in it. Drink it after a few minutes before going to bed.

  1. A balanced diet

We all know this fact since childhood that how important is a good balanced diet to stay healthy. But, despite the fact we start eating junk foods that are the main cause of many health issues in today’s generation. It is evident that you don’t have to spend too much on foods to stay healthy because junk foods are costlier than healthy foods. To make our immune system healthy, we should opt for foods that contain vitamin, minerals, protein, healthy fats etc. Never eat processed foods as those foods may affect your immune system. Take complex carbs from whole wheat and eat fiber rich fruits. Make sure you intake Vitamin C daily as this is a vital thing for your immune system and it is not stored in our body.

  1. Ginger

You can deal with autoimmune diseases with the help of ginger because ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties. As inflammation is a big problem in autoimmune diseases, we can reduce it by using ginger.

You can make ginger tea, just boil a cup of water and add a teaspoon of ginger slices to it. You can add lemon for taste and now simmer for 10 minutes. Now drink the tea twice or thrice daily. You can also add ginger in your cooking.

  1. Coconut Oil

Autoimmune diseases cause serious inflammation and coconut oil contains a high level of analgesic, anti-inflammatory properties. So, coconut oil can be used to treat autoimmune diseases. Coconut Oil also contains lauric-acid and fatty acid that can effectively fight bacteria that cause inflammation. Coconut Oil can enhance the metabolism for those suffering from Hashimoto thyroid. Add 2-3 tablespoon of coconut oil to your cooking daily. If you have spondylitis or arthritics then you can also massage that affected area daily with warm coconut oil.

  1. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is used especially to treat skin related diseases and it is also effective in autoimmune diseases. A study published in 2014, in the Journal of Autoimmune Diseases and Rheumatology, in which Aloe Vera has lupeol and Salicylic acid that have a pain-relieving effect, and compounds that have an anti-inflammatory effect in arthritis. Aloe Vera is also very effective in regulating metabolism that might be effective in Grave’s disease and Hashimoto thyroid. Aloe Vera gel is available in local stores but before using please consult with your doctor.

  1. Gluten Free Diet

It is a protein usually found in wheat that is a big contributor in allergic reactions and a great cause of autoimmune diseases. It is evident that Gluten causes celiac disease which is characterized by the intolerance to gluten and it can be a big cause of autoimmune disorders.

  1. Pineapple

Pineapple can be a really good home remedy to reduce inflammation as it has anti-inflammatory properties. Actually, pineapple contains a class of enzymes called bromelain that has great anti-inflammatory properties. Pineapple is also very effective in rheumatoid arthritis and spinal spondylitis. Peel a fresh pineapple, dice it into small pieces and eat it daily. You can also take a fresh pineapple, peel, dice and then take some turmeric root (14-15, 3 inches each). Now put them together in a juicer. Make juice and drink that thrice daily to reduce inflammation.

  1. Food Allergens

Sometimes, it is seen that some foods cause allergic reactions and further cause autoimmune diseases. So, you should look for the diet that triggers allergic reactions. Some foods that are common allergens are fish, soy, dairy products, nuts, and wheat. But before eliminating any food, you should take advice from a doctor.

  1. Fish Oil

A study published in 2000, by The Journal of Rheumatology proved that daily intake of fish-oil can reduce symptoms in rheumatoid arthritis. Fish oil is rich in fatty acids and anti-inflammatory properties. In the year 2006, there was a study published in Surgical Neurology, in which it was given that fish oil is a safe anti-inflammatory for back-pain and neck. You can buy capsule of fish oil (500mg) and take 1 capsule daily. You can also take 1-2 teaspoon of fish oil daily. If you are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or spondylitis then add 4-5 drops of fish oil into warm bath water and soak yourself for a few minutes.

  1. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient technique of China that is very effective in treating many health problems. In this technique a specific point is targeted in our body to treat a particular condition. Now a days you can learn acupuncture from Internet or you can learn it from a trained professional. It is one of the best home remedies.

  1. Cayenne Pepper

In autoimmune diseases, cayenne can be a very effective home remedy. Cayenne Pepper contains a compound called capsaicin that helps in relieving pain because capsaicin prevents the activeness of chemical in our body that helps transmitting the signals of pain toward our brain. Cayenne Pepper improves the circulation of blood in our body that helps in getting relieve from the stiffness of joints.  To use it, you have to take a teaspoon of cayenne pepper with some honey and mix them together. Now, consume 2-3 spoons daily for best result. If you are suffering from painful rheumatoid arthritis then add 2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper to half a cup of coconut oil. Now, apply the mixture on your painful joints.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

To alleviate inflammation, use Apple cider vinegar as it is a very effective home remedy. It contains vitamin B5 that is very beneficial in swelling or inflammation. If you have Crohn’s disease then apple cider vinegar can strengthen your immune metabolism. To use it, you need to take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into some hot water. Put a slice of ginger and let it steep for 5 minutes. Now, add a teaspoon of honey and consume it twice daily.

  1. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a great home remedy to treat autoimmune diseases. It can also be used for those suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. Cinnamon is considered one of the best ingredient for treating inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis. It has antibacterial property that helps those with Crohn’s disease by reducing the activeness of excessive bacteria. Take 1 teaspoon of the powder with some honey and add them to a glass of warm water. Consume the mixture daily. For those with spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis, can take a teaspoon of cinnamon powder with 4-5 teaspoons of honey and make a paste. Apply the paste on the affected area daily twice or thrice.

  1. Oregano Oil

For autoimmune diseases like spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis, the anti-inflammatory property of oregano oil can be very helpful. You have to take 3-4 drops of the oil with some water and consume thrice daily. You can also take 1-2 drops of oregano oil with a teaspoon of coconut oil and apply the mixture on the affected painful area (if you have rheumatoid arthritis).

For workout you don’t have to be a gym freak, just follow a good diet and workout at home can be beneficial in enhancing your immune system. You can also meditate to relax as it helps relaxing your muscles. To get relief you can do breathing exercises.
